Know Thy Enemy: Unravelling Iran's Pervasive Influence in Global Conflict

In over three years of safeguarding high-profile Iranian dissidents, closely collaborating with the Metropolitan Police's SO15 and military intelligence, I have gained an acute awareness of the multifaceted threats posed by Iran's regime. This article aims to illuminate the often-underestimated role of Iran in the current global upheaval and its potential as a catalyst for a major conflict.

Iran's extensive network of alliances with militant groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, as well as its involvement in regions like Iraq and Syria, illustrates its expansive influence. Financial, logistical, and training support to these proxies enable Iran to project power far beyond its borders. The support for Hamas has transformed it from a small militia to a significant force with advanced capabilities, including cyber warfare.

Similarly, the Houthis in Yemen, with Iranian backing, have extended their reach to strategic shipping routes, impacting global trade and regional stability.

The alliance with Hezbollah stands out as evidence to Iran's long-term strategic objectives. Iran's backing has been crucial in enabling Hezbollah's sophisticated operations, including attacks against the state of Israel.

The role of Shiite militias in Iraq, like Kataib Hezbollah and Asaib Ahl al Haq, further illustrates Iran's strategy of using proxy forces to achieve its regional goals.

Andrew Neil's excellent analysis underscores the significance of Iran's actions in shaping regional dynamics. The regime's calculated support to various groups reflects a complex strategy aimed not just at regional dominance but also at challenging global powers.

Tim Marshall's "The Power of Geography" offers a compelling explanation for the reluctance of superpowers like the United States to engage directly with Iran. Iran's challenging terrain and strategic position make a conventional military intervention problematic. This geographical advantage gives Iran a unique defensive capability while allowing it to exert influence through unconventional means.

Drawing from my professional experience, it is evident that Iran's activities are not just regional concerns but have global implications. The regime's ability to influence and orchestrate events from behind the scenes makes it a formidable adversary. The current geopolitical climate, marked by conflicts and instability, can be traced back to Iran's covert and overt actions. Its strategy of proxy warfare, combined with the geographical advantage, makes Iran a key player in any potential global conflict.

The full extent of Iran's malevolence and its projection into global affairs remains a topic of deep concern and speculation. Yet, the first step towards addressing this threat lies in a collective acknowledgment and understanding. We must look beyond the illusions and recognise Iran's role in fermenting war and unrest.

This realisation is crucial, as Iran has positioned itself as the central pillar in what can be termed as the new 'axis of evil,' orchestrating conflicts and leveraging its influence through a network of proxies and strategic alliances. Acknowledging this reality is the first step in a journey toward countering the destabilising actions of Iran and ensuring global peace and security.

As we move forward, our strategies must be informed by this newfound awareness, and our actions must be concerted and decisive to address the challenges posed by Iran's geopolitical manoeuvres.

To be clear: Hostem cognosce - The current Iranian Regime.
