SkyDefense Unveils Advanced CobraJet Counter-UAS System to Neutralise Drone Swarms

News of War Staff Writer

SkyDefense, LLC, based in Brighton, Colorado, has announced a breakthrough in counter-UAS technology with their new VRAM system. The VRAM, a robust command-and-control setup, integrates a counter-UAS interceptor weapon with a four-wheel drive electric vehicle, a CyberTruck according to their website, capable of deploying the CobraJet. This VTOL aircraft, crafted from carbon fiber, is equipped with all-weather electric duct fan motors and an AI flight controller, along with advanced imaging capabilities.

In a press release it is stated that the CobraJet is designed for high manoeuvrability, using thrust vectoring, and is armed with sixteen 25mm VIPER air-to-air rockets. This makes it adept at neutralising a variety of drone groups quickly and efficiently. Apparently each CobraJet can be rapidly recharged and rearmed for consecutive missions.

The press release claims these aircraft utilise on-board computer vision to detect and track targets, capable of intercepting enemy drones before they pose a threat to critical facilities or personnel. Further, it states that the CobraJets can engage enemy drones at long distances and high speeds, functioning effectively both day and night. They are also compatible with various C2 systems and can operate from both ground and naval platforms. We shall see!

Nick Verini, President of SkyDefense, highlighted the low collateral impact and cost-effectiveness of the VIPER weapons, emphasising their efficiency against fast-moving drone swarms. The company's future plans include integrating 45mm surface-to-air precision-guided missiles, aiming to provide a comprehensive, multi-layer air defense system. This development comes at a critical time as the global threat from attack drones continues to rise, posing risks to vital infrastructure and military assets.
